Nature under a Macro Lens

in #photos8 years ago (edited)

Does anyone else find nature to be as incredibly interesting under a macro lens, as I do?

I think the part that is so exciting, or amazing to me, is that you don't have to go very far to find something stunning. Even within your home, or your back yard, you could spend hours on end taking fascinating photos of otherwise dull things.

It's almost like being a child again, taking photos and seeing the world in a completely different light. Here are some of my macro photos. These were all shot on a 105mm Macro f/2.8 on an older Canon XTi. I've since upgraded my camera body to a newer one and no longer have that lens - looking for a new macro, maybe you guys can help :)

Butterflies

There were probably 50 butterflies that day all swarming around some average looking flowers on a bush

Frog

There was that time there was a frog in the house that literally was hoping around my desk

Moth

This little guy was around the house - looked a little colorful, so I placed him on a paper towel and took a shot

Praying Mantis

This guy was on the front porch of the house just by the door, saw him and grabbed the camera

Freaky huh - looks like an alien!

Anyone else into macro? I hope to get out and take some more, looking for suggestions for a new macro lens as well.

Sort:

The Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro lens is terrific value. The L version is a tiny bit sharper, but honestly, the regular version is razor sharp.. worth every penny.

Canon has some great glass. These shots were actually taken with a Sigma.

Great shots! Definitely like the macro shots too, there is always something cool around to try to focus in on. Mantis seem to be the hot thing right now, I just posted some shots of just hatched ones over in #photography. That one of him eyeballing you is awesome, the little ones do that too.

Stunning photography
