Random street photography
First, I want to state that this is the first post I am making on steemit. I am fairly new here. It was tough trying to decide what to start with at first, then it dawned on me.
A while ago I started a hobby of taking random photos of daily activities on the streets of the places I visit and posting them on Instagram under the handle @street_lives. Admittedly they weren't the best photos around (I didn't have any form of prior training on photography). It was basically just for fun. However at the end of the day it made me happy to see something I did myself. It was somwhat fulfilling. I am going to share a few of them here and hopefully they would appeal to some of you (if not all). I would also appreciate constructive criticism on how to take better shots that tell better stories.
Here we go...
This one is a picture of people standing at a local newspaper stand. This picture particularly amused me. This is because a number the people that come to this stand would argue for hours over the news headlines and then walk away eventually without buying any newspaper.
This one is about a tricycle motorist who violated a 'no parking' sign being questioned by traffic policemen. The motorist would try to coerce, argue or plead with them to avoid being written a ticket usually without much success.
I once visited a student residential area. At some point of my stay there, I looked down from the balcony of the apartment I stayed at and saw a group of young people gathered round and playing a card game. It felt strange a bit probably because I had expected everyone's eyes to be glued to a mobile phone.
This photo of a roadside tailor was taken around the suburbs of a small city called Umuahia in Nigeria. Amidst the noise of the busy street, the old man meticulously tended to the items before him and showed no sign of being distracted. I had to change this one to black and white because of too many distracting colors that could easily take away focus from the man himself.
The above beach photo was from a time I went a beach in a neighboring state with a group of friends. The serenity of this image easily makes it my favorite of the lot.
This picture of people going about their business was shot on a Monday morning. I was headed to my place of work and decided I should capture all the noise and bustling of the morning rush in a still image.
It is sad how we easily overlook these very familiar every day scenes because we are too busy to stop and appreciate the beauty in all the chaos. Ever since I started taking pictures of random people in different acts, I have been able to see all that hustling and bustling of the streets in a different quite interesting perspective and I often catch myself smiling and giggling at things I ordinarily would not take note of.
Really, it has been so much fun!
EDIT: All images on this post were sourced from my Instagram page @street_lives. I have attached an image below as proof.
