High - Key Photography • Amphitheater in Pula, Croatia

in #photorgaphy8 years ago

High - key is a style in photography which mainly uses unnaturally bright lighting to increase the motive out most or all harsh shadows in an image. High - key lighting eliminates high contrasts and the shadows that actually conveys a positive or an upbeat tone. It usually brings out the motive while the background stays white.

The amphitheater in the city of Pula or the so called Pula Arena is the largest and best preserved monument of ancient architecture in Croatia. It was used for gladiator fighting and was built during the reign of Emperor Vespasian in the first century AD. Because of the size, it occupies the 6th place among Roman amphitheaters in the world.

It has elliptical shape, measuring about 130 x 105 m, and 32 meters in height. Through the years the Arenas use has changed, from gladiator fights to occasional tournaments, theater productions, military ceremonies, public meetings and today, for concerts. Arena could once hold up to 23,000 spectators, and today in its present state seating capacity is aroud 5000 seats and about 12 500 for all standing events.

I like this kind of stuff a lot, nice and stark. The light post sticking out in the first one bothers me a little but otherwise they're all nice.

Yep, you are right. Without it, the photo would have more balanced composition.

Thank you! (:
