Vishalgad Fort….One Of The Most Important Fort Of The Maratha Empire….

Today, I am going to show you some of the pictures and also give you few information about the historical place which is "Vishalgad" situated in Maharashtra,India.

Vishalgad Fort is one of the most attractive and popular tourist spot in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, India. Vishalgad is also called as ‘khelna’ or ‘khilna’ by the local peoples. The name ‘Vishalgad is given by the “Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj”. Vishal means Grand and Gad means Fort in Marathi language which means it's a Grand Fort.

The structure of Vishalgad was built on hilltop in a Sahyadri Mountain which is above sea level ranges at a height of 3500 ft.and it covers the area of 1130 m. It is situated in north-west of Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, India.

The fort Vishalgad was built in year 1058 by the Shilahara Ruler ‘Marsinh’ at that time it was called as “‘khilgil fort’. But after some centuries it passed into the hands of different rulers.

When the Vishalgad fort is under the control of “Adilshah” that time “Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj attacked on the fort several time because they want to capture that fort but regiment of Adilshahi was defending them every time.

Thereafter one day “Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj comes with the exact strategy and attacked on the fort from the outside. The Maratha regiment of “The great Shivaji Maharaj” was successful in their plan and capture the fort in 1659. Then Shivaji Maharaj renamed that fort “Vishalgad”.
