The city of Chang'an in the Tang Dynasty, also known as the Sui Daxing City, was the capital and imperial capital of both the Sui and Tang dynasties. It was the largest city in world history and the largest capital city in ancient China.

Chang'an was constructed according to traditional Chinese planning principles and architectural styles. The city consisted of an outer city, imperial city, palace city, forbidden garden, and market districts, covering an area of nearly a hundred square kilometers (including the Tang Dynasty's newly built Daming Palace, Western Inner City, and Eastern Inner City). It was the largest capital city in world history. Within its walls, various industries thrived, and palaces stood side by side. At its peak, the population exceeded one million, showcasing the advanced level of ancient Chinese urban planning and architectural design.
