Crazy photos from Bangkok Thailand (Pt. 2)
Technically this isn't in Bangkok-- it's about two hours north-- but yesterday we went to the real life "Bridge on the River Kwai." It turns out the famous movie wasn't all that historically accurate (surprise, surprise), but this is the bridge it was more or less based on. Allied POW's built this railway bridge in World War II, and it was subsequently bombed by allied forces then rebuilt. The original sides of the bridge were all arches, but the gap where the bridge was bombed was hastily replaced with a rectangular design. The hybrid bridge still stands in good condition today, and nearby there is a temple/ World War II museum, as well as a pretty cool market. Here are some photos I took as we wandered around the area.
Great movie! and very good photos.
Enjoy the trip.
