Hello, my esteemed Steemit-friends lovers of the beauty of nature....

I took this photo in the heights of the Mifafi Valley, on the moor of the Sierra La Culata National Park, located in the Venezuelan Andes Mountains, in the state of Mérida, while the riders of the horses and mares prepared to carry our travel luggage on the backs of the animals.

Although there is supposed to be an unwritten rule that a hiker should be able to carry his own luggage on his back, the captain of the excursion considered that it was convenient to contact a group of Baquianos, inhabitants of the area, very knowledgeable of the route and owners of pack animals, to offer us this option to facilitate our journey by transporting our heavy backpacks.

This precaution was taken because the great attitude of much of the route makes there is less oxygen in the air bringing as a consequence would be difficult to breathe which affects a decline in physical performance, which is reflected when walking and of course, carrying the weight of baggage.

It was very early in the morning because we had to take advantage of the day before the bad weather arrived. The goal of the day was to reach the summit of the Las Verdes ("The Greens") peak, whose altitude reaches 4,430 meters above sea level. It owes its name to the fact that three lagoons of glacial origin of a beautiful emerald green color can be observed from its top.

The day before we had been able to reach the summit of Piedras Blancas peak, also known as Misamán, its aboriginal name, which, with its altitude of 4,748 meters above sea level, is the fifth highest in Venezuela.

On that occasion, my brother Leonel, who appears in the center of the first photo with his hands in his trouser pockets, and I were part of the excursion organized by the Caracas Excursionist Center during which we were able to reach three peaks, the Piedras Blancas, the Las Verdes peak and the Los Duendes peak, all located within the national park area.

To make such a journey we were fortunate to have the experienced leadership of Francisca Peña, as captain of the excursion, and Yraly Camargo - in the photo below with a blue pullover - whose professional activity has led her to climb important summits on all continents, as our guide who was responsible for ensuring our safety during the ascents.

Francisca and Yraly, two wonderful women helped us to live the pride of screaming: Summit!
