Today's Star of the Garden is: The Daylily

Today's star of the garden is the not-so-humble Daylily!

The daylily is an ornamental plant from Asia. I was told that the plant was discovered by a botanist who was so impressed by the beauty of a flower growing on a cliff that he risked life and limb to get a sample.

I could not verify the story on the Internet. If something is not on the Internet, then it can't be true.

The Wikipedia page for the daylily says the plant has recently been reclassified as a member of the family Asphodelaceae in the order Asparagales.

Daylilies thrive in the Mountain West of the United States. They thrive so well that they are considered an invasive in some parts.
