in #photography7 years ago

for so many years ago women in all over the world used to take care about their appearance as well as their beauty, exactly as what we see nowadays. even if the ways and the tools used are quite different, especially for those who were in north Africa and those who were in morocco and Algeria, and Tunisia in less degree. there were two essential elements that being used almost in every part in morocco, those two elements are what we called in Arabic Henna which actually still have a great position in the Moroccan culture so that women in all over the kingdom using Henna especially in the ceremonies especially in weddings and in some religious feasts, even it was used in years ago to make tattoos for women, in addition to Al Kohl which was used as an eyeliner.

throughout history Henna has been a powerful indicator of identity, especially in some barbarian tribes as i said before ages ago Henna was used for different purposes so that there were some women who used to put it in their hair for it's benefits on women's hair by giving it a new colour an give a sweet smell that lasts in the women's hair for days, another use of Henna is that women used to put it in their hands as and their feet in different ways which makes the women looks so attractive.

another use of henna in those barbarian tribes is that it was used for making tattoos, Tattooing by using Henna is one of the most old rites of the Berber culture, which date back to the period before the coming of Islam. tattoos by using Henna was a custom among the women in the barber tribes, which was used as ornamental or most of the time as a symbol for social status such as the death of the husband and widowhood .

even today in Maghreb countries especially in the amazing tribes of morocco the Henna tattoo still such a really important part in the barber traditions. historically the use of Henna tattoo was because the Amazigh used to believe That henna is not used only for ornamental aspect but they were believe that the function of the Henna tattoo can be protective, decorative, indicate the barbarian identity or even for medical purposes. in addition to that it was also used as an indication or as a symbol for something so that every single tattoo used to symbolise a social statue, as well there are so many rituals associated with Henna today such as; the marriage, birth and religious feasts.

in addition to Henna there was another element used for ornamental aspect and so many other purposes which is Al Kohl; Kohl which is one of the ancient eye cosmetic on earth, kohl was traditionally made by lead sulphide and so many other ingredients mixed together to give us what we called Al kohl. Kohl was used as a kind of mascara for eyelashes moreover to darken the eyelids, It is used mostly by women, even there are some areas when we find men and children with kohl and especially babies.

the the use of Kohl dates back to the pharaohs, it was used by women as well as men, but it was originally used but the egyptian queens, the use of kohl by men and women as wellwas becouse they used to beleive that Kohol protect from some eye diseases they used also to beleive the that the darkenning circle around the eye can protect one from sun's harsh rays.
