Swimming with a Baby Dragon 🐉
Highlight of the day was a remarkable encounter swimming with this fearless iguana 🦎 in our pool.
Chill green dude loved floating in the water, then sinking to the bottom. This went on for over an hour. We touched more than once, very lightly, but I didn’t want to force it...
Yes, I know they’re lazy sunbathers & have seen dozens of adults — as large as baby dinosaurs lying out to catch rays ... But this fellow is a swimmer, a first.
Usually, they flee up nearest tree when humans approach - little guy prefers to play patty cake 😊
What a privilege it is when a wild one offers their trust. I have very little experience with iguanas (was frightened first time I saw one) but this one was so relaxed and curious, it made me feel the same way.
This gets at the heart of the mystery and magic of this experience: if we can connect with non humans (despite our superficial differences) than how can we not find points of contact with other humans, given our deep similarities.
Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto, or "I am human, nothing human is alien to me."
