Hot Breakfast for Homeless

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Last week I took a group of 17 youth and 6 adults to Minneapolis, MN to spend time serving others. I have been doing this four day trip every year since 2007. One of the places I like to take the group is Simpson House Homeless Shelter. Some years we make sandwiches for lunches, one year we made dinner and this is the second time we have made breakfast. Simpson Housing Services is a Minneapolis, MN non-for profit dedicated to housing, supporting, and advocating for people experiencing homelessness.

This year we divided the group into two teams and spent two mornings making breakfast for 45-50 men and women who were staying at the shelter. Though they are smiling here, it wasn't easy to get them up at 5 a.m. to be there to make breakfast and serve at 7 a.m.

The kids did a great job of scrambling 7 dozen eggs, frying 9 lbs of sausage, baking 6 dozen biscuits and heating up a big pot of gravy. After making sure the guests had all they wanted to eat the kids got to sample breakfast too.

Then it was time to clean up as the girls made quick work of the dishes.

The guests were happy to have a hot breakfast and my team had a good time helping others have a good start to their day.

Teaching youth to Love, Share and Serve.
I hope you enjoy reading of our travels.

Wonderful you lead the youth, teaching them to help those in need.

Way undervalued comment. The children are the future and it is of greatest importance that they are brought up right.

Amazing publication I love you all
Good luck my greetings to you heroes
