I scanned my late father's collection of nearly 4,000 family photos from the past 60 years
Dad passed away in Feb 2014. Without getting into too much detail, his health was always an issue since I was a little kid. He died suddenly in his home at the breakfast table, but I tend to tend to describe it as a sudden death after 27 years of declining health.
In the process of dispersing his belongings to all us family members, I made a point to have any and all photos that were found be given to me for archiving. Granted, Dad wasn't exactly a photographer, so many of the photos are what you'd expect to find - family photos during family functions from crappy point & shoot cameras, or maybe the occasional Polaroid. That said, many of those were functions that occurred 40-50 years ago, so those photos are the definition of vintage.
I'm still scanning, actually. So far I've racked up over 3,000 images that will eventually make their way up to either Flickr or Google photos. I just find it fascinating to bring these memories back to life in some way. There's a kind of satisfying peace involved with archiving your own family's history.

nice photos. So nice you are able to have these memories in photos. a real treasure.
These photographs are a glimpse back in time. This is something I have a desire to do for my own family, if we can get more photos from my grandparents who are still living in Romania. I have pictures of my mother and father when they were children, plain black and white prints.
What a great way to honor your Dad and share these moments in history with the world. I love the shot in front of Signal Gas of the hunters with their birds.
What's funny is I have no idea who those people even are. LOL
I bet scanning 4,000 photos took a long time, but I bet it was worth it.
So many great photos to preserve and share.
4 years. I started scanning them before he passed, actually.
And yes it was.
What a Nice piece of Work. He was a great photographer also a great person. Because your writing is so good. Sorry for your loss. Parents are always great teacher for us. 1st and 3rd one awesome.
We scanned all of our family slides a few years back. It was a lot of work, but worth it. Sometimes though I miss looking at them on holidays in the basement of grandma's house with the old projector.
I love this! What an enormous task. That is something I want to do with my family's old photos as well.
Hey @winstonwolfe! Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your family history. Thank you for opening in ways that most of us choose not to open up!
