A Riverside Proposal Portrait Session
I wanted to post this again, because at the time I originally posted it, there were only a fraction of the current Steemit members here. I hope you like it :)
This photo session was shot in September of 2014 using a Canon EOS 6D with a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8.
This is Courtney & Jay.
Courtney & Jay wanted to have couples portraits taken in September 2014, so we met them at their favorite place - the place they met - Tyler Bend, which is part of the Buffalo National River in Northern Arkansas.
Look at those bluffs.
Carolyn, my wife, is Courtney's aunt, so this was a particularly special session for Carolyn as she virtually helped raise her. That and she knew what this session was really all about.
The fog was perfect.
We actually have to give a lot of credit on the lighting to the ambiance of that morning fog.
Not a single artificial light was used. It was completely natural. This is the sweet stuff.
It came, went, and then returned as we progressed through the session, and it provided such a diffused, creamy look to the whole series.
What a beautiful morning it was.
As we strolled down the rocks along the riverbank, we were discussing our plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. At one point, Carolyn asks them both to step forward and face each other out in front of the camera so we could get our next shot.
It was at this moment that - as we appeared to be preparing for the shot - Jay began talking to Courtney in a somewhat private manner.
He then pulled out a small, woodworked section of a large tree branch which he had carved, put a turning hinge in, and a magnet which held it closed, fashioning it into one of the coolest ring boxes I've ever seen.
Jay dropped to one knee and proposed to Courtney right there on the riverbank. The very place they first met.
We are forever honored they chose us to share this moment with, and overjoyed at the results of the images we were able to give them.
Courtney & Jay are now happily married...
That's Jay's little girl, Tuscany.
...and Courtney is due any day now to give birth to their first child together.
A little girl named Velencia.

I'm going to re-reply to this one because, in reference to the storytelling aspect of the images, Courtney & Jay presented a very unique opportunity for us because of the relation to my wife. They specifically wanted her to shoot these because they knew that due to that connection, we'd be taking particular care of their images. She is still due to pop any day now with their daughter, and had things worked out a little better on the timing, my wife would've had the opportunity to actually photograph the birth itself. Normally, I would cringe at that thought because, really...who wants that? Here's the deal: Jay is a firefighter and is actually going to be doing the delivery himself! TELL ME THAT'S NOT THE COOLEST FREAKING THING! :D
That totally beats cutting the cord! LOL
However, we'll still have a great opportunity in the coming weeks to get some beautiful newborn portraits.
Can't wait to see the newborn portraits. I got the chance to photograph my first birth a couple weeks ago and it was amazing!

Oh man....the fog that morning. We get great results with that Sigma lens, but never before or since have we been able to get so lucky as to have an environment that seemed to know why we were there. LOL

These are absolutely amazing! I'm new to this and learning from others posts. I see now that it makes for a better post when you add descriptions to each photo. Like telling a story ... Thanks for inspiration 👍🏼

You're definitely not wrong, people tend to be like to be told a story, but it's certainly not a rule. There are pictures here that have been posted with no words that have made thousands of dollars. People will try to rationalize why that could be, but ultimately it's not worth worrying about. Just be your best self and keep going. ;-)
