The Best Way To Present A Subject - Close Cropped or Wide Angle?
It's hard to decide the best way to frame and crop a photograph.
This is why I often give up and make a dozen pictures out of one. I know that Steemit presents relatively small pictures, and few people are going to click through to see the full-scale version of an image to appreciate the details. It's easier to just zoom in on the parts that feel interesting and present them.
I've decided to use today's post as an experiment, or survey. I'll present five images with people in, with two versions of each. The first close cropped on a face, the other a bit more wide angle, with some urban landscape present.
If any particular version strikes you as more compelling, let me know in the comments.
No. 1 - Windblown Pedestrian
Lucky timing on this one. She's ready for a shampoo commercial.
No. 2 - Leaving the Station
It's a beautiful morning. Let's conquer the day. But just what are we going to conquer?
No. 3 - Quincy Man
No, he's not really in Quincy. That's the irony, though. Sometimes signs tell you where you are, and sometimes they tell you where you're going. How to know the difference?
No. 4 - Restricted Area
But just what's restricted about it? Do we need a bit of construction equipment to make it compelling?
No. 5 - Ready for Business
In a rough-and-tumble, under-construction world.
Well - there you have it. Did you prefer the close portrait or the wider landscape?
Or some of each? And did you have a favorite?
Thanks for reading!

Very good demonstration how cropping can make all the difference in a picture!! Thank you for that!
Impressive relativity, the click with the speech. I like to prefer no.5 dominant girl like a dominant subject strikes me. Both are ok portrait or the wider landscape depends on the good ratio/composition. It's my opinion as a painter. Thank you.
the Close-ups of 1 and 5. Number 1 shows the wild designs of her hair flowing in the wind or breeze. When you back out it takes away from the intricate strands of hair forming shapes and designs on the wind.
Number 5
The close-up makes it look like she is on the move and on the move fast. With the slightly blurry background.
I personally like to see the detail in pick but then it is also nice to see the bigger picture and atttempt to put together what is goin on.
From all those photos, I definitively likes ALL the ones where there is NO close up.
Street photos like that require composition, surroundings, ambiance.
But then what the FUCK DO I KNOW about photography!!!
ohhh inspiration inspiration!!! :)
Cool - glad you liked them!
