Rare Sighting - Book Readers!

in #photography6 years ago

It's not every day that I encounter someone reading a book.

Even more rare: the male reader. And more rare still: the male reader with a book by a female author.

The book: Left Neglected by Lisa Genova. Ironically enough, it's a book, in part, about the dangers of not paying attention. From the publisher's description:

One morning while racing to work and distracted by her cell phone, she looks away from the road for one second too long. In that blink of an eye, all the rapidly moving parts of her over-scheduled life come to a screeching halt. After a brain injury steals her awareness of everything on her left side, Sarah must retrain her mind to perceive the world as a whole. In so doing, she also learns how to pay attention to the people and parts of her life that matter most.

I hope this guy stays safe.

As someone who enjoys words, it's encouraging to see that these old paper and cardboard artifacts still get used. I'm guilty of reading on the cell-phone myself. It's just so damned convenient, and so easy to highlight and annotate and search. But I'll never lose my attachment to the book as a physical object, and the kind of focused, quiet attention it demands - even in the busiest surroundings.

Do you still read books? Do you prefer to read electronically, or on paper?

reading makes me sleepy. It's been a long time since i've read a book I couldn't put down. The last book i started, and started again after putting it down for so long i had forgotten the beginning, I am still just half way through and it was at least a year ago that i was reading it. so...should i pick it up again, i'd have to start over for a third time. It's a good book (elmore leonard) but my old eyes just get tired, i guess...?
also, reading and walking is not as dangerous as texting and driving, but reading and walking AND having earbuds in may be living on the edge!

I still read books I personally don't care for ebooks

Hahaha good find!

I am so proud of my little book worms. They have ipads and such but still read books every day. I like to make it so that a trip to the book store (physical one!) is regular and a treat for them. In trying to motivate them, I have taken the tactic of telling them how much smarter they are then I was at that age because I didn't start to read books until I was out of school. That and "Someone who doesn't read lives one life. Someone who reads can live hundreds."

I still read. Here is a shot from just last night.

I prefer reading on the Kindle as I don't need glasses for that, but I also fumble my way through real books just to prove myslef I can.
On the other hand, right now I'd give anything for a book you cannot put down...I envy that guy!

Do I still read books? Heck yeah. Gimme the paperbacks!

Who knew so many pedestrians had books in front of them? Might be as dangerous as texting and driving, but I'm no expert here.

I mostly make it a combination... I read on my iPhone most of the time, but I also always have an actual paper book in my backpack, just to switch now and then. And it still feels good, flipping those paper pages... ;-)

How rare indeed! It was nice of you to capture that moment and share it.

For long or complex things I prefer a book but I hardly buy magazines now and only occasionally buy newspapers.

yes you are right Very few people remaining who are crazy about reading...
