Taking Steemit to the end of the Land: Land’s End, Cornwall, England [part 1]

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

DAY 1

It was 4:30 AM, when the alarm rang, warning me that I should wake up because our new trip had to start. Our final destination? Cornwall!

I drove for 5.5 hours, when we finally arrived at Polperro Heritage Coast.

Even though the weather was horrible, we wandered the streets and discovered the surroundings. We had the check-in at 4PM, so we had a lot of time to have fun.
As we were hungry, we stopped in Truro, a nice town, with a wonderful cathedral, that I suggest you to visit.
In this city, the Roman Empire's architecture is still strongly visible

After lunch we went to St Agnes, a tiny fishing village, located on a cliff. It was raining but even so, we chose to walk for kilometres up to the cliff, taking amazing pictures.

After a few hours, we were completely tired so we finally surrendered and went back to the hotel, where our main goal was to "relax" and sleep.

DAY 2

After a breakfast took with nutella croissants and coffee, we moved to Lizard, the southern part of England. The wind was blowing strongly and the rain was always by our side.

We went again to enjoy the view from the cliffs, taking videos and photos. Amazing landscape... such a shame  it always rained.

At 12.30 pm was the time for us to have our lunch, so we chose to stop in the village to taste the Cornish Pastel. Mine was baked with meat and beer. I ate it all, even if I don't like onion and it was all over my plate. But I don't think I will eat it ever again in my life LOL.

Our next stop was ST Michael Mount, an Island or Peninsula depending on the tide.

Rocky island crowned by medieval church and castle, home to a living community

Still home to the St Aubyn family, as well as a small community, this iconic rocky island is crowned by a medieval church and castle - with the oldest buildings dating from the 12th century.

While looking down from the castle, it is possible to see the subtropical terraced garden and enjoy the breathtaking view of spectacular Mount's Bay.
Completely fascinated from what we saw, we moved on, this time we visited...

The Minack Theatre

Cornwall's world famous open air theatre.

The theatre was the brainchild of Rowena Cade (2 August 1893 – 1983), older sister of the feminist Katharine Burdekin, who moved to Cornwall after the First World War and built a house for herself and her mother at Minack Point for £100.
At the theatre there was a side with very slippery stairs, but if you climbed to the top, you would have access to the amazing bay, with blue water (If you have ever been in England, you may know that the majority of beaches have brown/mad colored water).
We were really excited to go down... but I cannot say the same about our way back. So many steps, gosh!

After this, it was the time to check-in at the hotel... the only hotel built on the LANDS END cliff. After that, the ocean was only ours!

Finally we could see the sun, he timidly got back, while the rain had its last part of the show. So immediately after checking in, we decided to do a walk on the cliffs and to finally enjoy the stunning view and the sunshine. Any landscape is far more beautiful when you have the sun by your side.

In only 2 hours, it was cloudy again, so we unfortunately couldn't enjoy the sunset.

Even if the sun wasn't by our side, we continued our trip, this time to St Ives, a beautiful city on the coast, 30 min away from our hotel.

This place is filled with shops and restaurants and we chose to go to one of the most famous places, to eat the Giant Crab.

For someone who's living in San Francisco or any part of the US, well, they might seem like having a normal size. But for me and other Europeans, they were very impressive. For example, in Italy the biggest crab might have the size of 5 cm, while the one I ate was at least 30 cm .

Besides the fact that it looked so good, it was also really tasty! After dinner we went for a walk by the sea, and then we drove back in the completely darkness, of our sleep.

If you enjoyed reading it, don't miss tomorrow's post, about the 3rd day of my trip. There is something mysterious that you won't want to lose!
