Not Ghosts. Artifacts of Long Exposure in Photography. Prize?

One day my friend approached me with a terrified look on his face. He showed me a picture of himself on the beach at dusk. There was a little girl in the image, barely detectable and faded. He thought it was a ghost and tried to convince me. That reminded me of a picture I took in San Marco Square in Venice. The two main parameters you can play with in photography are the aperture, or F-stop, and the shutter speed. Aperture is how wide your shutter is. The shutter speed is how long your shutter is open.

Those night time photos with the streaks of car lights we've all seen were taken with long exposures. The shutter was open much longer than it would be in a daytime shot, could be 6 seconds depending on the camera. The reason is to let in more light in a dark environment. This makes the film more sensitive to objects that produce their own light , making the reds of the brake lights and the whites of the headlights pop. The streaks are due to their movement during the exposure. The lights in the Square are the most brilliant. Next, well lit people who weren't moving were also visible. But people who were moving and not well lit, they were invisible. Some people were stationary just long enough to reflect just enough light to produce a faded image. But they were alive, they weren't ghosts. Neither was the girl on the beach.
