Do you look out of your window or only look in your mirror?

“Adventure is just outside your window.”

Who has time these days to sit quietly and look through the window pane?

"Huh - What is all that about ?" you may ask. You may respond, in a slightly irritated mood, that the time is all occupied in TV, Kids, job, gadgets, parties and if nothing else, on catching up on sleep.

How long has it been since you, alone or with a companion, sat near a window and just looked at the world outside?

Speaking for myself, frankly, it has been ages. My wife and I used to sit by this window, in the little nook in our home on Sundays and just look outside... The silence spoke volumes and we soaked in the view.

Lately, however, we have been looking only in the mirror - that is symbolism speak for being introverts and being bothered about oneself. All we keep doing is gazing at ourselves and evaluate how we look, how we are acting... everything so focused on us - nothing about what is going on around us or how the world is moving on....

This is what that lovely nook and window still looks like. As beautiful as ever. However, we no longer seem to find time to sit there... In fact, I hardly notice the window these days. Today - as I was looking for a subject to try out some new HDR settings I had worked out on my Nikon P900, I noticed the window with it's range of light and shadows and took this picture.

So - what is it about my window to the world that entices me? Of course - the lovely curtains, the bright large panes and the colorful cushions in the nook make it look very beautiful but that is only part of it. After many months, I felt the urge to go sit by my window again. I saw nature in all it's glory in our garden beyond the window...

• A wall of green - lively, calming and giving a sense of hope

• A few lovely red cup flowers, gently swaying in the breeze - showing that passive moves are nice in life too... sometimes we just need to go with the flow

• An industrious spider weaving it's web - telling me that hard work always pays off but we need patience too

• A Bulbul bird flying back and forth to it's nest on the vine - showing me that I always need to have strong ties to my home and family as I fly high

... you get the idea. A lot of us may think it is mushy and useless stuff! To be very frank, I did too, for many many years.

Off late, however, I have realized the value of drawing strength through little things around me. I seriously advocate everyone to try and do that. We need to realize that he adventure called life is OUTSIDE and not within us!

Do try to spend a few minutes each day with your nose pressed to a window pane. Not everyone would be fortunate enough to have a grand view of mountains or a garden. However, even gazing at the early morning fog, with the headlight beams of cars belonging to early worker bees cutting through it, can sometimes motivate you.

We do not need speeches from Bill Gates or some Motivational Guru to motivate us and pick up our spirits. All we need to do is to throw open our windows to the world and NOTICE the world around us!!

In Conclusion:

Gaze out of your window - don't let life pass you by!
