📕 Amy's PhotoBook Ch.3 - Photogentic Swans

Cygnus atratus or black swans is a large water bird that breeds mainly in southwest and southeast regions of Australia. A New Zealand subspecies was allegedly hunted to extinction by the Māori. However, the species was reintroduced to New Zealand in the 60s. Black swans can be found independently or in loose companies numerate into hundreds, if not thousands of other Cygnus atratus.

The Australian Black swan was introduced in New Zealand as an ornamental water flow. These majestic creatures are also known for their musical and far reaching bugle like sound, used either on water or while flying. They can also whistle, mostly when they are disturbed while breeding or nesting.

Although black swans are beautiful, they like their privacy. If you aren't part of the pack they will not be too kind to you. From small ducks, to small turtles they aren't too friendly to these creatures. They will peck at them or simply yell at them with their loud call. They can be very intimidating even though they are beautiful.

Despite them being bullies of the pond or lake, they sure seem to have some kind of sense of humor. To also having interest in some human interaction; along with our cameras. Black swans love being the center of attention and like to be noticed. They know they are beautiful birds and want everyone to see how beautiful they are.

I believe certain animals are special characters. Just like a dog, all dogs are not alike and they all behave differently. They say dogs resemble the owner and their household. We are animals and we have a an energy flowing through us just like the animals and plants we share the planet with. That being said, we can encounter silly animals like below just being themselves. Maybe normal to them but goofy to us.

This swan here had a feather stuck to its bill ad kept coming by to show us the feather. We thought it was just trying to show us the feather, but when I looked back at these photos, I believe it wanted us to take it off for him. I wish we would have, we probably would have made that swans day.

Black or white swans are known for their long "S" shaped necks. When swimming, swans hold their necks arched or erect. They often carry their feathers or wings raised in an aggressive display. An adult black swan measures anywhere from 110 to 142 centimeters and weighs about 3.7-9 kilograms (8.2-19.8 lbs)

Although, the subspecies in New Zealand had vanished, the black swan continues to make its mark in Australia and New Zealand. The role of the black swan in Australia emblem and culture extends to the first founding of the colonies in the 18th century. The black swan is featured on the Australian Flag and is the state bird and state emblem of Western Australia. How lucky are we to have such beautiful birds roam the lands here in Hawaii?
