Bird's eye view of shipwrecks

in #photography9 months ago

Over the weekend I had a chance to fly my drone over our very own price if paradise near Brisbane.
The one and only Moreton Island.

Moreton Island, situated off the coast of Queensland, Australia, is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. And is our little piece of paradise as it is only an hour boat ride from Brisbane City.

Summer time is here down under, so this place will get a good work out from visitors from all over the world.

Among Moreton's many treasures, my favourite has to be the Tangalooma Wrecks . I have explored these submerged vessels underwater as it is an amazing spot to snorkel.

But I had never seen these wrecks from above so it was the perfect time and place to send up my drone for a bird's eye view of the Tangalooma Wrecks.

The Tangalooma Wrecks consist of 15 vessels deliberately sunk to create a breakwall for small boats. Originally serving as World War II landing crafts, the wrecks now form an artificial reef, it is full of underwater wild life! So many different types of tropical fish and reef fish, call this place home.

You also might see a Wobbegong shark, dolphins and dugongs if you are lucky as they are also known to visit the wrecks.

As I mentioned Summer came early in Brisbane and Moreton bay was full of beach goers and boats.

4x4 cars lined the sand with the smell of BBQs fired up and beers were flowing, while the water was full of boats anchored up with music pumping. It made for an awesome vibe on a beautiful Queensland day.

We made the mistake of swimming the channel right as the tide was heading out (we should have checked the tide times) to snorkel the wrecks.
The tide current through the channel was extremely strong so we had to just go with the current and not fight it.
We started at the southern end of the ships and ended up nearly at the north end by the time we crossed the channel.
