The Balkans in the Middle Ages

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

I propose to see how the Bulgarian and Serbian Balkan reenactors imagine themselves during the Middle Ages.

Last year, Sofia hosted a festival called "The Balkans in the Middle Ages". At this festival several teams of reenactors showed the Sophians how people lived in the Balkans in the 10-15th centuries, their clothes, life, weapons, decorations and even food. It's a pity that they did not treat you. By the way, there was no food on the territory at all, except for mock-ups. Even to carry it was forbidden. It was somehow sad - we had to go to lunch.

But overall we liked it.

It turns out that it was already the second festival, and when it was the first one, I do not know - we missed it.

The whole event was held in the territory of the Military Academy Park, almost in the center of Sofia. The entrance was paid for - 2.5 euros in terms of leva. For free exit and entry all put on the hands of the press.

Authentic military camps were broken in the park, medieval blacksmiths and weavers worked, children were taught to shoot arrows and weave leather bracelets.

The festival was held two days (Saturday and Sunday) from morning to evening.

They say that there were also Czech teams there, but I did not see them in the list of participants.

The knights go to battle.

In an empty pool called "Ezeroto", which was once really a lake, two demonstrations took place on Saturday. It was funny: the knights in armor are very slow. I think medieval people were more physically prepared)

And since seven in the evening concerts of local bands, who are keen on medieval music, have started in the park, but we could not listen to them anymore, because we lost all day and went home.

I really like the historical reconstruction, but I saw it alive for the first time.

Thank you for your time and attention.
