Pirate treasures and the church on Snake Isl

Here it is this humble island. Every resident of the complex "Sveti Tom" knows him as his own. In the sense of the eye nazo to the extent.

Now it is called Snake Island (Zmiiskiyat Island), and once it was the island of St. Tom. Therefore, the name is in the complex.

By the way, this bay is called Alepu.

There are five similar islands in the Bulgarian Black Sea. This is probably one of the smallest. Its size is only 1.2 hectares.

Rumor has it that treasures were hidden on this island. Of course, they were looked for by all who feel like it and trampled on an island so much that they wiped out a valuable architectural object from the face of the earth and the king ordered to plant cacti here - so that they would climb more

Just kidding - the king ordered to plant them here before they found the church. From this we can conclude that the king was afraid that they would find the treasure.

In 1933, at the behest of Tsar Boris III, Opuntia cacti from Bratislava Botanical Garden were planted on the island. They have grown and greatly impede movement around the island. And it's full of snakes. But I personally did not see any cacti or snakes, because I did not walk on this island. And they say here lives a rare species of mice Günther vole. Experts say that local snakes eat fish. Well then, it's clear why the mice are still alive))

From above the island looks like this.

There is also information that on the island, approximately in XIV-XVI, there was a small monastic complex. This information comes from the archaeologist Dunka Gerganova, who in 1955 allegedly discovered remains of a building on the island, resembling a single-celled, one-step church.

Interestingly, in 1961 Gerganova again visited the island, but did not find a single stone from the church there. The fishermen were accused of everything - they were said to have taken away the sanctuary for household needs.

A rough plan of the church, which made Dunk Gerganova

These are the legends from our Bulgarian village  😊
