Winter Camping on a Mountain Top Photoset 📷
We had a rare winter last year with hardly any snow in my area and so I was able to hike the mountains all winter and I never needed snowshoes. In the winter, we headed out or what was expected to be a dry weekend, but as usual, the mountains are unpredictable and often nasty when it comes to whether.
Unfortunately, we had fog all weekend so I didn't take to many photos as the visibility much of the time as only 25-50m. This made navigation particularly difficult and we had to rely on map and compass heavily to find our way.
We spend considerable time looking for a suitable camp spot that provided some shelter as well as firewood option as we knew we needed that to warm up and for cooking. You can see my hammock tucked back away in the trees there, this was one of the few moments were we had a bit more visibility. it didn't last long!
I definitely enjoy winter camping however, even if at times it is more of a challenge. It was a memorable trip, as we woke up to 25cm of snow and had a very difficult hike out. I didn't get any photos as it was essentially a full on blizzard and could see anything really, so no option for photos, but we still had fun!
