Descending Mount Holy Cross Hike - A Mountain Side Oasis! - Part 2 📷

WOW, I was very impressed by these small waterwalls and little water oasis on the side of a rock covered mountain. In a hot dry summer with no water running in the creek at the base of this mountain, I never expected to find such a cool little landscape of trickling waterfalls and mosses on this mountain. Captured a few more pics from a couple more of the falls I came across on my descent.

I love just how GREEN these mosses get. Pretty amazing!

Quite the contrast from the rocky ridge we ascended on that you can see in the background here.

Each of these large cliff bands we climbed down had a sweet little trickle of water and moss at the base. Pretty cool find!

Stepping back to the next little drop off, you can really see how much vegatation grows here in these hideaways on the mountain. You can't even see these from below, as they are all hidden by cliff bands and we didn't even have an idea that they were there until we were quite close and could see over the rock ledges to these hideaways.

This seems to be the very last bit of moisture up on the mountain. This small trickle was just dropping down into the rocks down below it and dissappearing underground. The rest of the hike down is dry and hot, so we leave behind these nice surprises.

A few kilometers further down, we descend the last main band of rock and have a short hike back to our camp. Time for dinner and some relaxation.

After supper and relaxing out in the hammock towards sundown, the skies are rolling in some more dense clouds, which look like rain. We hear the thunder and its probably raining up in the higher elevations. As darkness sets, its time to go hang in the hammock for the night and fortunately, get to go to sleep to the sound of light rain on my fly above my head. What a DAY!
