A bird a Day - The Birding Blog - #1 White wagtail
THE BIRDING BLOG #1
So after a really good impromptu trip back to my home town, i feel charged to get back to making music.
As i sip my morning coffee, I thought that it'd be interesting to start a blog with one bird image posted everyday.
I'll call it the Birding Blog.
Birdwatching as a hobby is one of the most satisfying things to do. All you need is a pair of Binoculars and patience. And the best part is you can do it in your own backyard as well ! I started out the same way and eventually started taking pictures after 4 years of birdwatching.
I will soon write a blog about how to do birdwatching and the basic etiquettes of the hobby.
I want all of my friends to experience the joy of Birdwatching sometime in their life. Just to see these avian beauty in their natural habitat is a very calming and joyful experience.
But More on that later.
Without further talking, here is todays Picture. This one is called White wagtail.
The bird gets its name because of its habit of constantly wagging its tail up-down. The locals call this bird 'dhobi' which literally means washermen. The washermen style of washing clothes is very similar to the pumping tail action of this bird, hence the name. There are about 12-15 species of wagtails found around the world, a lot of them in my lovely country India.
These are usually ground feeding Insectivores you'll find running around farms, or near lakes or scrubs doing their tail pumping action. They are commonly seen around lakes along with their relative species like the Yellow wagtail, Citrine wagtail, Pied wagtail, grey wagtail along with a lot of others. you will never be bored watching these guys as they keep hunting insects doing their comical tail pumping.
Thanks for reading ! I wish you all a great day.
