One of my favourite snakes to photograph that day was the black mamba.

Here are some interesting facts about the black mamba.

Did you know that the reason they are called black mamba is because the inside of their mouth is black?

The black mamba is the longest venomous snake in Africa and can grow up to 3m in length.

The venom of a black mamba is mostly composed of neurotoxins. It's bite will cause a human to collapse within 45mins and can cause death within 15 hours if left untreated.

My experience with this beautiful snake was that it was very calm, they are known to open their mouth when they feel threatened and because they are very agile and able to lift 40% of their body off the ground, if you ever come close to a mamba, don't make any sudden movements and try move back as slowly as possible. Since they can be found both on land and in the trees, be very careful where you walk. In most cases the bite of a black mamba is fatal.
