Where There Is Smoke There Is Fire

Last night @mikeheinhold and I got together with no real plan on what we were going to shoot or explore. But Mike really wanted to do some smoke grenade shots, so we wandered around downtown Hamilton looking for a good location to use the smoke.

After some time, we came across a a walk way tunnel that goes underneath train tracks. A small tunnel with an interesting mural in it. We both have always wanted to shoot in this tunnel but neither of us had come up a good concept or idea for it, until last night. We set our cameras up, decided on angles and set off the grenade.

You can see C3PO and R2D2 from star wars and the part of an elephant on the wall. The mural that covers each side of the tunnel is a strange mix of fictional characters, animals and people. Below is Wile E. Coyote and an astronaut.

I had thought that these where going to be the best shots of the night (still think so), but before we found the tunnel. We found sections for a construction crane laying in an empty lot. Thinking of a few ideas for possible shots we went over to them and started to brainstorm. While doing that I noticed how clear the sky was and nice and bright the clouds where. A perfect time for a long exposure shot of the skyline!

We narrowed down the shot options and decided on steel wool. Set up and started to shoot.

I ended up with one the best steel wool photo's that I have taken this year! This was a great night of random shooting and there will be many more just like it in the future.
