Light Painting #1: The First Attempt

We set out for a night of adventures, with plans of doing urban exploring. But just before I met up with fellow photographer Mike (instagram: mikehienhold), I remembered that I saw a road closure. We have been wanting to do steel wool shots on an empty road for some time. So we made an adjustment to the plans, hit the closed road then continue on as planned.

As soon as we got to the road we quickly realized that steel wool was not going to be possible. The LED street lights provided too much light for an effective shot. With that idea abandoned we began to walk, looking for different creative shots. Not finding much of anything I thought lets give light painting a try. It is something done often, but we hadn't played with it.

The first attempt was the above photo where I wrote BTC with my light (because Im not obsessed with crypto at all lol) and it turned out surprisingly well! Keeping it pretty basic, I then wrote I heart you.

Mike had an idea to take both lights and go a little crazy running around with them. I also enjoyed how that turned out!

Having a lot of fun with it, I brought out a glow stick. The road was too bright for it to show up. So we went into the bushes, where I made this heart design.

We had a blast shooting these! So much so that exploring was forgotten about and before we knew it, it was 4:30 a.m. There is still a lot to learn and play around with, but we will be out doing light painting a lot more now. With hopefully more complex ideas for it. Do you have any ideas for it? I would love to hear them!
