I wanted to start running again a few years ago, but after a short while my ankles hurt so much that I stopped again. If I go for a walk or hike, then I have no problems, except when I go downhill for longer, then my knees hurt.

Age changing our focus on what we want to or can do, and yes downhill or down stairs is the worst for my knees as well

Well, that's the age, and we will have to live with it and make the best out of it ;)

As long as there are more things you can do, than what you cannot do, it should be OK ;)
