in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Disassembly and reassembly step by step manual.

Clean the contacts

Wires braided fabrics are replaced with wires in plastic coated brass.

This kind of renovation demand a sense of space saving in the frame when placing the wires.

Capacitors are obviously replaced.

Easier said than done.

Results are great :

Real "Old Sound" brought up to life fifty years later.

Complete Technical Details and List of Modifications :

"Bassman amp Silverface export", AC568 circuit, good condition for its age estimated at 45 years - between 68 'and 71'- (The Chart tube label has unfortunately disappeared with time).

Power tubes biaised cathode tubes and balance control.

Possibility of future development towards a blackface circuit for a bit more power and control biaising 6L6, but this amp works well and with a generous sound.

Impeccable low volume too. A little breath like any Silverface but nothing aggresif ear.

Excellent for bass, guitar, very stable also with bass and guitar simultaneously connected.
Takes very well coming into effect.

Sort:

I had an old Fender Bassman head with a 4 / 12 cabinet when I was a kid.

Sold it and got a Marshall 2/12 all in one back in 1989...

Nice amps though and well worth preserving :)

Thanks for sharing...

Absolutly, "well worth preserving", well said.

This sound which is really warm than becomes rough but still round,
when you put the volume up.

At least with a bass guitar. :))

Sure, the old Fenders, we called them twides back in the day was in a class by themselves. The Silver faced was improved in many ways but lacked some of the old "clatter" if you will...

If you're handy with an iron and can find old tubes you can make these babies sing :)

Blessings.

Welcome everyone.
It is a pleasure to see you in our studio!

So many votes, it's so great.

indeed, we have other amp' prototypes to show you in details.
but first I have to negociate with Bibs.

He is somewhat refractory to everything that is computer ... But he should now largely be seduced and happy to know that his work please.

Again thank you,
have a safe travel.
