Thoughts, Words and Photos (Eighteen)

For the most part, we are all survivalists negotiating with our environments to ensure our own continuance. This takes many forms and doesn't require hunting or stockpiling canned goods in a basement, it means that we use what we have to so the best we can. It can even be argued that even our worst actions, are the best we could do in the moment.

Survival itself takes on many perspectives as depending on our environment, what is required to do to survive can range widely. If alone in the woods, the ability to provide shelter, warmth and food greatly differs in process than in the concrete jungles of a city. Rather than negotiating with a bear or a fish, the conversations take place with humans and their various conflicting cultures and views.

What happens though if our safety is guaranteed? The only real point to us having a brain such as ours is to be able to negotiate the environment to change and adapt for survival. Ours is most likely the most advanced on this earth and is specially equipped with the ability to simulate what is not to solve for what is. Take away the risks inherent in the requirements to survive and mental movement stops.

There is no reason for us to think if we consider ourselves 'safe' as it is only when there is a threat to our safety that we need to find a way to mitigate and survive, we must problem solve once again. The issue comes of course when the problems we choose to face are too few and far between as we lose our ability to think broadly and quickly and if we slow too much or become complacent, we will be unable to solve for x in a timely enough manner when we must.

The benefit of a community is that we can work together at the solutions without having to rely solely on our own mental abilities which means, the problems we can solve can be much larger and more complex than what we can do alone. This is great but also has a risk inherent in the system as it is very easy to rely on others to find the solutions and when this happens, we not only lose our own abilities, we become enslaved to the thoughts of others.

If we remove ourselves from the conversations concerning our survival, we cannot complain as to where the solutions lead us.

What problems can I solve today, and the creation of post content keeps my mind busy. I agree that survival is a very strong motivator. Parenting and the survival of your family boosts that motivation.

It is a great journey whether the problems are big or small and indeed, the survival of family motivates strongly.

Certainly, the person needs to interact in the midst of his community and communicate with the members of society. Communication is of great importance in the transmission of ideas and information between people. Every human being has many ideas, opinions and information, but in many cases this information is incomplete. Each of us sees the world from his point of view. The transfer of these ideas among themselves and the formation of integrated ideas that lead to the solution of various problems faced by society

We must engage in the concerns of our society. The inherent risk of relying mainly on the community to get the things done can be mitigated through the proper awareness..It can be imparted in the growing minds through our education system. But I don't see it succeeding in the way it should.

Take away the risks inherent in the requirements to survive and mental movement stops.

Not so fast 8-). There are quite a few people who, in a situation where there are no more survival risks, turn to science, engineering, art, and so on, and are quite active mentally there. One could even argue that if we were somehow to eliminate survival risks, at least a subgroup of people would show a wave of creativity unrelated to immediate survival, much like Einstein holding down a steady job providing for his basic needs so that he could use his mental skills for something else.

Ah, I see this is another type of survival though where they are looking to solve for unknowns, improve upon quality, express their ideas better etc. I don't think the risks have to be physical survival but imagine if everything was provided and all of those you named instead decided to consume entertainment only.

This is a pic I made for an old post:

I find it hard to imagine that everybody would revert to consuming entertainment only, even when many would. I know I wouldn't, so all I wrote could be a severe case of projection 8-).

Besides, who would then provide the entertainment?

As I said:

This is great but also has a risk inherent in the system as it is very easy to rely on others to find the solutions and when this happens, we not only lose our own abilities, we become enslaved to the thoughts of others.

You assume that in a system where survival needs are taken care of one would still depend on others who provide for you. That is not necessarily the case.

If a community could come up with a way to provide for what is needed for survival in an automated way (sorry to veer off towards Star Trek 8-), then there would be no dependence on "others", but survival as a stimulus for mental agility would be out the door.

Either way, while some would revert to an almost vegetative state and become the ultimate consumer, many would still think, develop skills, and be creative, simply because many enjoy that. Hence hobbies.

Survival as a sole, or even the most important, motivator for having skills, thinking, and being creative is far too limited a model. It greatly depends on the circumstances you find yourself in, and leaves out things like curiosity, creativity, the built-in need to do and make stuff, etc. we are also equipped with.

I would be interesting to see what would happen in a post-survival, post-competition, cooperative society. It goes against the grain of the economic belief systems popular on Steemit, but that is a Good Thing. It is a shame an experiment is a bit difficult to set up 8-).

Uuum interesting!

I reckon that in the modern world complacency is probably a person's greatest threat to survival ~ from a truly being alive perspective.

When comfy it is all too easy to forget to strive and challenge oneself.

So many folks give up on thinking and simply stagnate which, to my way of thinking, is a form of extinction/death.

Not you though!

Trying not to die, even if it is mostly for the survival of my inside :D

First of all i like your pictures. What settings did you use?

Now to the philosophy part: I agree with you that we need to activly engage in conversations regarding our survival. But I`m a little pessimistic about how much influence we can have on those conversations. Isn t our system ruled by a few powerfull people?
How much influence do we have? I think that on a bigger scale you and me dont have much influence regarding our survival. We can only accept that the world keeps going and we should live each moment to the fullest.

I don't think it matters in the end how much influence one can actually enact but, being part of the process is also part of the survival and the abilities to think. There is personal value in it.

I think very few people would be able to survive in the "real" world. The average person would die not from a lack from oxygen, but from a lack of facebook feed. And if a survival situation ever comes (doomsday scenario), the vast majority likely won't cooperate :P

No, WAIT, i mean, "Nice post dear, very eyeopening, i upvote you"

In a doomsday scenario there will be no YouTube DIY'er to provide the necessary guidance :)

@tarazkp Some see life as a pulse of emotions and sensations; a human being is alive, full of vigor and vitality, and naturally engaged in human activity, and there is a third section of people who view it as being able to live In internal peace and security; this is what some call the psychological or poetic comfort

Great photos ! Like them alot. also interesting stuff to read, followed !

Great photography skill you got there @tarazkp and great timing too. Where is this place?

this is a lake about 100 metres from my home. These were taken in the summer as currently, it is frozen over.
