Steemitphotochallenge #44 - Entry 2 - Who are you calling big nose?

One thing I really miss from Australia (especially Cairns) is the range of fresh produce. Finland has a limited capacity to provide fresh foods and because of the nature of the culture, the imported range is not especially wide.

One thing that is quite interesting though is that Finland is one of the largest exporters of bananas in the world and therefore these are very cheap here. But, don't expect to drive along the lake sides and see row upon row of Banana plantations, there isn't even one. For some reason, Finland is a major banana distribution point for Europe and Russia and sees very high volumes come through. Strange.

One thing that Finland does excel at though is strawberries. There are many places where the strawberries are perfect heart-shaped and large enough for pavlova decoration. Here however, they are quite a bit uglier but they taste incredible, They can get very expensive, especially early on and in a bad season, they can run out quickly.

In fact, Finland has some awesome berry opportunities overall and I will do some posts about it when the blueberry season starts. The forests are littered with blueberry bushes, raspberries and wild strawberries and it is a very popular past time to go picking them. When they come in, I will show you how easy it is and how local the places are. It took me a long time to try this for the first time, I don't know why.

This strawberry was delicious too but I had to get a photo of its honker first.

I wonder how many will get the reference in the title of the post?

I assume you took that photo. You've got more will power than I have. Looks too tasty to be sitting there uneaten!

Yeah, I updated the post a bit :)

Cloudberries! How could you forget about cloudberries? Oh, and we don't export bananas, we import them. :)

You mean swamp turds? :D

I left them off purposely as I don't think they are actually meant to be eaten. Well, perhaps by very hungry bears. My wife @momone loves them but for me it is something to do with the seeds. The taste is okay but the texture. It is even worse than the squeaky leipäjuusto you put it on ;)

I have heard that the bananas that come in get transferred to Finnish ownership for tax reasons or something so then when they go out again it becomes an export.

I want to thank you too as you spend time reading and upvoting people's comments. I think there is value in there and encourages better commenting in general. So thanks.

You mean swamp turds? :D

Woah! Nope I don't think our national berry has anything to do with turds. ;)

I'm a very hungry bear when it comes to cloudberries. And leipäjuusto, that's heavenly when half melted in oven covered with fresh cloudberries and cream. Cloudberries are also very healthy for the body.

Btw. my wife mentioned you also forgot lingonberries in your list.

I didn't know that about bananas though.

I want to thank you too as you spend time reading and upvoting people's comments.

I appreciate it. I like to think that comments, just like posts are meant to be read and deserve to be acknowledged, if not by words, maybe by an upvote. :)

The list of good berries in Finland is too long so I had to leave many off. I stuck to the ones that go well on a Pavlova. I have never really understood why Finland doesn't put more effort into exportation of berries. They are about the perfect superfood and would be in demand I think.

Keep up the good work.

Ohh. I must have missed that one! :)

Something for everyone at this carnival :D

That is funny. I have never seen a strawberry before with an extra meat sticking out.

Haha, it really looks like a nose.

Dont think so lol

Haha funniest thing seen today

Always glad to provide a smile

Would have upvoted but my power is low

Useful post ... good luck
