Patches of sunset

Finnish summer nights are long. Really long. And they can be epic for sunsets as under the right conditions, they can last for hours and change many time within the frame.

This summer though, I have had other obligations that have taken precedence over spending the nights being eaten by mosquitoes by the lake, the most important of course being my daughter. In a few weeks, she will have her birthday and it was these months last year that my camera time was filled with taking pregnancy photos, and sunsets.

The pregnancy was difficult in the final few months and what was planned as a summer of enjoying the last days as just the two of us, turned into hospital trips and my wife spending a lot of time laying down. Such is life and the resulting little girl of course made it all worth it.

This meant though, that I did have some time to sit and watch the sunset last year. Albeit, with a phone ever present and not far from home. These were taken during that period last year. When I look at them, the memories of that time come back, the anxiety I felt for both my wife and unborn child's well-being and the majesty of the moments nature brings.

Duality speaks of the contrast between light and dark, good, evil, motion and stillness. Life is full of wonder and although it makes it easier to talk about some issues, the totality of life is what is important, duality are sides of a coin. It is still the one coin.
