Better than expectedsteemCreated with Sketch.

The wedding I shot today went better than expected, plus the food was pretty good. The couple are really nice and were doing most of the work for the wedding themselves. When I arrived, the bride was setting tables and the groom was putting signs along the road side to point to the location. Other than the caterer, it was just them. I respect this a lot.

Since the weather was pretty decent we could shoot outside which was great, as inside would have been a disaster. The interior had no room or backdrop and would have looked about the same as if a drunk uncle took the photo on a point and click. My friend and shooting partner arrived a few minutes later and we got to work going through the gear. We shot nearly everything on his Canon 5D and 70-200 mm as it is far superior for this kind of thing over my mirrorless Olympus EM-1.

I haven't gone through all of the photos yet but grabbed this one (and 2 or 3 others) when I got home to send to the bride for her Facebook page. It seems important for people to do this and I think it is silly that the first photo they put as a married couple is one from that drunk uncle since the professionals often take 2 or more weeks to get them back to the client. I think the professionals should pick and process on as soon as they can for their own marketing purposes as it is likely that the first post-wedding picture will get the most exposure.

I don't care about exposure though as I am not a professional, I do it for free and this is likely to be the last time. But, she is a friend of mine so I want her first picture to at least be in focus. This is predominantly unedited but I did very roughly remove a security sticker from the door. I will clean it up properly later but this is enough for Facebook's image crushing algorithms.

The bride has lovely eyes and face shape and I think that this particular photo shows them well enough. When shooting, I focus on the bride as in general, they are the ones that are really going to care what they look like and be much more critical of the end results. Her husband even while shooting was not so interested in it all to begin with but, he warmed up after we joked around a bit and had a few laughs.

I am hoping that when I go through the rest there are enough decent ones for them to feel like they got their 'no money's worth' and they are able to find one that is able to happily sit on their bedside table for the next however many years. I will know more tomorrow.

congrats!

Even though you are saying you're not the professional the pictures came out pretty professional to me. And since you doing for free nobody can blame you if something goes wrong right? I have started shooting weddings myself for my friend's wedding too. And after a while I found myself charging 1000 Euro for a wedding. Shooting a wedding is like sports you have to know your camera settings in your muscle memory and react in different lighting situations so this really difficult. And of course it's not for everybody as marketing can get hectic at times when people are asking why price for a wedding photo shoot is so high. But they do not take into the account that you have to upgrade your gear constantly you must have several Pro lenses that cost thousands of euros and then you need to spend days while retouching the images. I have been doing weddings for like three seasons but then I began my startup of photography community and have no more time for this. But I still remember those nice moments and those cool couples that would trust me with moments of their life.

This was my third wedding, all friends and I am not a portrait photographer even at an amateur level. There is definitely not enough muscle memory involved.

I also had a friend with and he is quite technical in his approach which is good as I am less so. When we 'work' together we are able tom compliment each others skill set somewhat and get decent-ish results.

I will give you a follow so as to see how you work also :)

Working in pair has it's benefits, as one photographer can concentrate on the couple and more close up shots and the other on the guest and surrounding. Involves so much less lens swapping :) You are welcome, maybe you will like some of my work :)

Good job! This photo shows you focused on her beauty. Both bride and groom will appreciate it.

Thank you Doc. I hope so. It is going to take a few days to sort and process the rest but I think there will be enough they will be happy with.

Nice. Wanna come shoot my wedding?

Is the food going to be good?

Ask @artonmysleeve lol he said he'd do the catering ;)

Beautiful photo @tarazkp. Light and background are well chosen and their pose is really nice. I hope we will see more of this wedding from your camera. Upvoted, resteemed & DPS.

Thank you, I will try over the next week to process. :)

Nice one! Very nicely lit too.

Very nice. I think you captured quite a bit of emotion in that photo. You can almost feel the brides happiness come through the picture. The groom is focused with quiet love and tenderness on his bride. Very poignant.

Thank you @sabrin514, I like this one too but it is easy as she is so photogenic.

No one looks at the groom :)

Great. Thanks for sharing. I vote for you and begin to follow you. And Resteemed...

Bursted :)
You did a good job here. Though I'm an amateur photographer with a crop lens DSLR. One of these days I'll get my hands on a full frame DSLR like the one you are using. ✌️

It is my friends. I had a cropped Canon at one point too but changed to mirrorless for portability.

Yeah, mirrorless cameras are lighter and portable. I'm using the beginner's choice, Nikon D3300

Great, thanks. No you didn't and I flagged you for cut and paste spam.
