Good morning to all!

Dj Hollywood

Some of the pioneers say you’re the first rhythmic rapper they’ve ever seen.

Who were your influences?

"The things I found as a child... when I was with aldultos... I listened to Frankie Crocker, The Last Poets and Pigmeat Markham.

At that time, I didn’t know I was going that way". DJ Hollywood

Tell me about Pigmeat Markham, I never heard that name.

"Pigmeat Markham had a record, Here Comes The Judge". DJ Hollywood

"We used Here Comes The Judge to rhyme over. That’s exactly what we do in terms of Hip Hop". Kool Moe Dee

"Pigmeat Markham taught me to sound natural and put humor in it.

I could sing about records. I could rap about records. And my love of making people laugh by saying things that... were broadcast". DJ Hollywood

"He was the master of public response.

He had people eating out of his hand because the audience felt part of the show.

It’s what brought it to the table and it did it in a rhythm.

All MC imitated that rhyme in their repertoire". Kurtis Blow

"DJ Hollywood and Eddie Cheba, and arguably Lovebug Starski, were the most intellectual rappers.

Some said that intellectuals weren’t Hip Hop... of course they were. They were great.

There were a lot of rappers on the street. And they were popular.

They attracted a lot of people for a dollar.

But Hollywood attracted people by 6,50.

He was paid, and he was the only one with a big car.

Hollywood was a star". Russel Simmons

"It all comes down to this. Hollywood was disco.

Hip Hop was based on the rhythm of the break, the cut.

The difference between a hip hop party and a disco party was that Hollywood was rapping R&B and disco.

He was [Love is the Message]. We were more Apache.

They didn’t like it. We did that, and break dance and the B-boys". Melle Mel

"To go to a Hollywood party you had to have a coat and tie.

If you didn’t wear a coat and tie, you wouldn’t go in.

We could come in sometimes.

We’d dance Break Dance and he’d cut the music.

[Don’t do that here. No Break Dance. You can’t]". Grand Wizzard Theodore

"[Take that Hip Hop shit to the street. Take that to a Kool Herc party. Here we want seduction].

That was his attitude.

Not only the Hollywood one, but all the DJ’s of discotheques". Grandmaster Caz

In the next post I will continue with this, thanks for the attention.
