Syrian-African rift

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Hi, Steemit!!!

When we once again went to rest on the Dead Sea, there was an idea to stop along the way and look at the Syrian-African rift. It is in this rift that the Dead Sea is located, where the lowest point of land on earth is located - 420 meters below the level of the World Ocean.

We stopped the car and went to the rift. The Great Syrian-African rift passes through the Jordan Valley for 6.5 thousand km.

So we saw it:

The rift is a seismic zone, its proximity creates the danger of earthquakes in Israel.

Along with frequent imperceptible earthquakes with a magnitude of up to 4.0, our sub-plate gets from time to time and more serious shocks. Over the past 2000 years, there have been at least 20-25 devastating earthquakes in Israel. A catastrophic earthquake of 749 AD left numerous tracks on both banks The Jordan River - from Jericho in the south to Kfar Nahum (Capernaum) in the north. We were in many places and saw the consequences of that terrible earthquake.

There we had an interesting meeting. I'll tell you about it in the next post :)

Have a nice weekend!
