[COME WITH ME] // Tropical GreenHouse in Paris // A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

in #photography6 years ago

Centuries ago, orange trees were the first fragile plants that would be conserved at the Royal Garden.
In order to protect them, people started building what we call in France "Orangeries".

Decades after, the first greenhouses made of wood and glass appeared, in order to conserve and acclimatize botanical collections and rares plants brought to France from explorations.
And this is what I visited today : a Tropical Green House in Paris.

I was amazed by the diversity of the plants and their abality to adapt : I would see "EPIPHYTES", plants able to live on top of other plants. See these two pictures :

You see this a lot in tropical forests, these plants that grow on trees are simply looking for more light, and they are able to grow because their leaves or aerial roots absorb the atmospheric water.
Among those EPIPHYTES, we find orchids (Cf Picture)!

I also saw these two funny guys :)

1 : "Chamaedorea oblongata" , a Palm Tree infructescence (the red and black things are his fruits !)
2: Look at this warrior ! "Kapok" is the most used common name for this tree and may also refer to the cotton-like fluff obtained from its seed pods. The tree is cultivated for the seed fibre, particularly in south-east Asia, and is also known as the Java cotton, Java kapok, silk-cotton, samauma, or ceiba.
