Rotating disc NGC 4526
This neat galaxy is known as NGC 4526. Its dark bands and bright diffuse glow make a galaxy look like a halo hanging in empty space.
Although from this point of view the galaxy looks calm, this is far from the case. This is one of the brightest lenticular galaxies, which by properties lies between the spiral galaxy and elliptical. It contains two known supernovas, one occurred in 1969, and the second in 1994, and a colossal supermassive black hole that has a mass of 450 million Suns.
