Pitstone Windmill

in #photography9 years ago

Yesterday I put up a post about how I was missing the village of Pitstone which is the place I spent the first 39 years of my life. Working late this evening gave me the opportunity to some old photos from my when I purchased my first digital SLR camera. It was a Canon EOS 300d. The photos I'm going to post are from May of 2005 and I think this was the first trip I took out with the camera. It was a beautiful Spring day and the girlfriend (now wife), deceived to go for a little trundle around the village.

The photos are old but the edits are new.

Pitstone Windmill is now owned by the National Trust and is an early Post Mill. This differs from the similar windmills in the county I now live in (Norfolk) in that it was turned to face the wind. The windmill is no longer in use but its machinery has been restored an d it still in place.

The exact age of the windmill is unknown but the year 1627 has been found inscribed on the timbers but it is thought it was built earlier. The windmill was heavily damaged in a freak storm in 1902.
