Scenes from Jerusalem Old CitysteemCreated with Sketch.

One of the oldest & holiest city's in the world, visiting Jerusalem is an awe-inspiring experience.

Each street is infused with history; you walk in the footsteps of prophets, king & warriors.

Church bells, the muezzin's call, or the ram's horn echo through the alleyways and bounce of the ancient stone walls, while incense & exotic spices are caught on the warm breeze. It's a sensory and spiritual experience unlike any other.

The Tower of David is an ancient citadel in West Jerusalem built in Mamluk & Ottoman periods. It was built on the site of an earlier Muslim fort, that was constantly being destroyed by Crusader knights.

Byzantine Christians believed the citadel was the location of King David's palace - "built with turrets, whereon there hang a thousand shields, all the armor of the mighty men." (Song of Songs, 4:4)

Panorama of the Old City. It is a walled area divided into the Muslim Quarter, Christian Quarter, Armenian Quarter and Jewish Quarter. Each part has a distinct & interesting vibe.

On the walls of the Old City looking out over East Jerusalem & the West Bank in the distance. In 1967 Israel occupied East Jerusalem, and the tensions are still tangible today. For all its beauty, Jerusalem is also a city constantly on-edge.

Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It contains the two holiest sites in Christianity: the site where Jesus was crucified and his empty tomb, where he is said to have been buried and resurrected. Pilgrims from all over the world gather here to pray.

The rooftops of the Old City. If you can find an almost hidden staircase at the corner of St Mark's Road and Khabad Street, then you can climb up to the rooftops of the Old City. Its a great place to wander and has some unique views!

Cool. Don't forget your camera - i'd love to see some pics!

don't have a camera, and i sold the phone a week ago because i ran out of money for eating. :)) that's a little sad.

Too bad. Maybe just get a cheap disposable one for your travels? That way, you wont be worried about losing/damaging it, and you also really think carefully about what you will shoot, because of the limited number of shots!

not so lucky. i withdrawed 1 sbd and i will convert 0.0012 for eating tomorrow :D maybe in future, i dont know at this moment

Hey, you are 1 of the winners from this weeks travelmap. I would love it to see more posts from you using the tag ;) Thanks for participating! And great post by the way.

Cheers! Is #travelmap tag meant to be used generally, or just for the specific country you are focusing on in a given week?

Generally. The chosen country is just to get picked :) - It is an extra to inspire people to contribute.
