I recently visited Graves Mountain for the second time now, they do twice a year "Rock swap and dig". People come from all around to dig in the quarry that has found some amazing rock and crystal specimens since the early 1900s.

Arriving about 20 minutes before their opening time 8am, there were already a dozen cars and trucks outside the gates waiting to get in.

By 8:10am there were way too many cars on the road, starting to block it. I was glad I took my truck off the road and not dealing with below.

Truck drivers were going through this area and people were completely blocking the road.

Once I got in and settled, we headed into the quarry.

I headed to a back area for some privacy and got to digging.

From there I climbed this hill to find an exposed tree root system, but I was worried about the tree falling so I did not mess with it.

Back to the main pit and just walked the area, finding lazulite, quartz and other cool stones.

There are many pits at Graves Mountain, some you will find blue crystals (lazulite) and other pits you will find iridescent hematite.

I will post my finds once cleaned up but many boulders like this strewn around the area.

These would make amazing garden boulders, and its common for people to try to take them home.. Good luck!

Certain rocks and boulders have special patterns on them, I do not know what they are but I have seen them before from others collections.

Many great views while on the mountain, and besides all the people and traffic it was very peaceful.

Glad you liked it, the adventure was something I needed to share. The GIFs are huge, I hope they did not clog up your internet pipe.. hah Ill do more as I go more places.

Ive started to soak them, so soon to come! Im going to do some macro shots, and maybe some blacklight fluorescence photos like I did with the plants.

Those are UTVs provided by Graves Mountain to help people get up and down the mountain. Im in pretty good shape so I hiked most of it, but anytime I can catch a ride on their taxi service I would.. Especially carrying heavy rocks.

That is iridescent hematite, one of Graves Mountains most known for stone.. Besides Rutile.

Huge thanks for that again. Enjoyed reading. Not at all, they worked outstanding. Lit!

Lit! I cannot wait to see those photos.

Alirght. Yes, seems legit haha. Hiking with rocks in your backpack could be quite exhausting.

Okay, thx for the information.

Good, ill post more then. Hah yeah after about 5 hours of it I was done for the day.

That sounds like an super fun event. Looking forward to seeing the cleaned up specimen :)
