Bridge Where Dreams Come True

in #photography6 years ago

Half way through a very long drive up to Springfield, Illinois today, I pulled off to stretch my legs and found this hidden gem. I could see there was a bridge off into the woods, but I couldn't see much from the highway. What I found was much more impressive than I expected.

This is the long view, where you can see there is a concrete bridge, with brick rails, then a rusted metal bridge. The concrete part of the bridge covers a swampy area, where the creek banks can expand when it has rained a lot, while the metal bridge spans the main creek banks. I find the vegetation growing on the bridge's roadway particularly interesting.

Now that you've had a taste, let's back up and take a quick look at the approach leading to the bridge.

Back up on the bridge, here we get a better view of the metal bridge.

With a look over at the metal bridge's railing, we can see one rail hanging down.

While the concrete part of the bridge had vegetation on it, the metal bridge area was clear enough for some graffiti.

Making the title of the post, "My dream come true."

This is continuing past the metal bridge and off the end. You can see there isn't much road left, as most has been swallowed back into nature.

A look off the side to the left allows you to see State Route 51. This likely used to be a bridge for that road at one time, until this section of the road was re-routed just slightly.

A look off the side to the right, shows the creek snakes on between the woods and fields in the distance. You can see some of the brick railing here. It is likely somebody had taken sport to kicking the bricks out at one time.

Looking back the way we came shows a bit more of the brick railing, with most of the bricks kicked or other fallen out.
