Flake Mountains and Willis Draw on the Seviers Plateau
The Flake Mountains stand alone above the snow on a beautiful winters day. Sitting high above the Seiver Plateau north of Bryce Canyon National Park these are small mountains with a peak of only 8,048 ft / 2,453 m.
This mountains are located within the boundaries of the Dixie National Forest on the Sevier Plateau towering above John's Valley and the Sevier River.
In this photo to the left of the Mountains is a flat area called Willis Draw and you can see Spring Creek which runs to the south of Flake Mountain into the East Fork of the Sevier River.
This area was a seasonal high elevation hunting ground for the Southern Paiute First Nations Tribes. The Paunsaugunt and Sevier Plateaus were used for seasonal hunting and gathering activities, but there is no evidence of any long term permanent settlements.

I lensed this picture after taking off from Bryce Canyon Airport a few miles to the south and came upon this scene when turning north to fly through the mountains.
From an elevation of 2,000 feet above the ground you can clearly seen into the valley that separates the two flattop mountains that are together called Flake Mountain.
This image is from my ongoing project in which I am trying to raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain unpopulated wilderness.
Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing locations that surround us.

I have :) but of course!!
Ha! I assumed you did. It would be fun to introduce Abbey to the young people... if they haven't been introduced already.
Your pictures are one of my favorite things about steemit.

I can only thank you for taking time to check this out! It is a pleasure to do this project.
This an absolutely stunning photo. The colour of the sky with the clouds against the foreground snowy evergreens and the middle ground of the of snow capped mountains...
That is one beautiful area... very silent and still ...even in the summer this is a very serene spot. I had a blast shooting around there for a couple hours. That cloud formation kept changing and I kept going till I found the one I wanted.
