Vanilla Beans Growing
It's really cool to have our own vanilla plant, especially a happy vanilla plant.
Last year we had our first flowers but they weren't bubbling over with growing glee. But this year the plant is showing its HAPPY face and Michael is pollinating 5 to 8 flowers a day.
Yes, we have to pollinate as the bee who does it normally doesn't live here ha ha.
Pollination is pretty intricate but Michael has it sussed. He uses his special work light to make sure.
We're looking forward to a great crop and then the next learning curve of processing.
Catch Roxy the Galah getting in on the game.
Thanks for sharing and upvoting.
Cheers Linda
Gorgeous plant! I am so glad it did well for you! Is it one of those that doesnt produce fruit every year, or just not enough pollination last year? So glad to becatching your stories again!
What a cool post! I would love to know more about the pollination process!
Hi @tiredmama and @ellicia
Re the growth I think it was just weird last year because it was the first year. This year it's all on.
I'll do another post on the pollination with some better photos. It's quite a process.
Cheers LINDA
