While traveling around New Zealand we saw all these beautiful flowering trees called the crimson pohutukawa, the flower is a national icon, and a distinctive feature of New Zealand's northern coast.

Flowering in summer, it's sometimes called the New Zealand Christmas tree. It can survive on rough exposed cliff faces which are sprayed with strong salty winds. It's has a long root system which helps to stabilize coastal cliffs and banks.
