The photographic appointments : Vincent Munier
Vincent Munier, born in 1976 (age 41), is a French wildlife photographer.
He specializes in photography in winter conditions. His book White Nature (2006) made it known to the general public.
At 12 years old, Vincent Munier realized his first image, thanks to the camera he received from his father, himself a naturalist.
Since 2002, he has produced numerous reports around the world, in his quest to show the beauty of the wilderness and to highlight endangered animal species. The snowy owl, the muskox, the brown bear and the wild yak are part of this bestiary which he continues to explore through committed expeditions, alone and independently.
In 2008, he photographed for the first time the Arctic Wolf; since then, he has been traveling extensively in Canada in the footsteps of this species. In 2013, he spent a month alone on Ellesmere Island in extreme cold conditions. A group of nine Arctic wolves came to meet him: he saw one of the strongest moments of his career as a photographer and brought back rare images of these "ghosts of the tundra".
In 2015, he embarked alongside director Luc Jacquet and marine biologist and photographer Laurent Ballesta, on a two-month Antarctic expedition from the Dumont d'Urville scientific station. Named Antarctica!, It constitutes a first visit of the South Pole, for this specialist of photographs in extreme conditions. This expedition gave rise to a film, The Emperor, a sequel to the first feature film by Luc Jacquet on the subject, The March of the Emperor.
His photographs are published in the international press (Terre Sauvage, National Geographic, Paris Match, Telerama, BBC Wildlife Magazine, The Salamander, Animan ...) and in the form of books: he is the author of a dozen photographic works at different publishers. His images are regularly exhibited in photography festivals and are shown in art galleries in France and abroad.
Vincent Munier is also the founder of the Kobalann editions, in 2010.
In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.
