📷 Egrets of Taiwan - Raising Chicks (Photo Story)

Egrets are a common species in Taiwan, you can spot them almost everywhere in the lowlands, even near highways.

A while ago I had the opportunity to capture wild egrets nesting and caring for their newborn chicks, and it was interesting to observe and photograph their behaviors.

An egret on the way back to the nest.

The one carrying the branch returned to the nest and gave it to the other to build. The way they exchanged the branch with their beaks was as natural as the way we use our hands.

And away it goes again, to find the next branch.

Nearby an egret watches over its unborn chicks.

And then it decided to give the eggs a good warm incubation.

Nearby, a nest was bustling with activity. An adult watches over its chicks waiting for its partner to return with food for the hungry birds.

The chicks must be really hungry. 

These chicks looks like they are starting to feather.

Nearby, an adult takes a short break on a tree.

Then a magical moment happened when I captured one against the sun with its feathers all puffed up! It was truly majestic!
