📷 Summer Dining Room of the Castle Marienbaum, Poland

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

In Poland there is a huge brick castle Marienbaum. An interesting story is related to the room in the photo.

After the Battle of Grunwald the castle was besieged. One day knights sat in this refectory, and one of the traitor-deserters told the enemy that a single column holds the dome.
The enemy decided to complete the siege with a single shot and exactly at twelve o'clock, when knights were dining, the top bombardier made a single shot.

The cannonball flew into the window and, flying very close to the column, crashed into the wall. Knights survived, and the cannonball is still stored in edification for future architects.
