Travel blog :: ⛵ Coal Harbour, Vancouver (AKA, Millionaire land)
Vancouver is the 3rd most expensive city in the world to live in behind Sydney and Hong Kong. Particularly the area of Coal Harbour is crazy, with the average condo price sitting well over $2,000,000, and up to 29% of the condo sitting vacant, because the owners live abroad.
I went on a photo walk a couple years back, so I thought I'd share some more of my photos.

Let's take a look at where Coal Harbour is in Vancouver. Here are some google earth images to give you an idea of where this is located.
The image above shows Coal harbour in the red polygon. The area is beautifully situated with a view of stanley park, the inlet and the mountains on the north shore.
Development over the past 20 years has been hectic, and the area has been developed with glassy high-rise condos.
This has attracted the attention of real estate investors all around the world, and driven prices to truly dizzying heights. A condo in this area can climb as high as $20 million. 😵
To live anywhere in this area you must be a millionaire. 🤑
Just outside your door is the seawall walkway, packed with restaurants, and high end shops.
If you're looking for a great place to eat while floating in the harbour; "Cardero's" is amazing. I've been lucky enough to eat there twice, and both times were great!
Their food is yummy, plus they have a wall where famous people like actors or athletes, who have also eaten here have signed their name. Kind cool I guess?
Even though you're in the middle of a major city, the area always has touches of nature everywhere which make walking around coal harbour very zenlike.
The view out towards the inlet of coal harbour is very scenic with stanley park and mountains in the skyline.
While part of it is peaceful, the actual city seems to be in constant construction. This makes living here noisier than it should be. Eventually the construction will settle down and it should get quieter, but until then, it's going to be loud if you live next to a building project.
The noise does suck, however, I love the styling of the buildings, they all look very modern and beautiful. The vibe you get when you walk down the streets are that it's very clean, modern, well planned out, and a hybrid of nature and humanity.
Here's another picture of the seawall. Out of all the places I've ever walked in a city, this is by far my favourite place to be. It's definitely something you owe yourself to experience on a future vacation.
Near the same place as the last picture, I turned to my left and snapped a photomatrix of most of Coal Harbour. ⛵ It's a magical place, that is out of reach of most of us to afford. 😣 (Until we become super rich from steemit of course. 😜 )

Thanks for sharing the amazing photos. I was recently in Vancouver and was in awe with it's beauty. I agree with you, millionaire land is a great way to call it. I wonder how Vancouver is able to have so many people earning so much in order to afford living in such places.
That's the thing, I don't think people can afford it anymore. It's sort of become an investment vehicle for the world's wealthy. They've added a 15% foreign buyer tax, but that hasn't stopped the prices from continuing to rise. I think I read last year that the real estate prices of Vancouver rose more than the average person's yearly salary in just one year.
It is still too early to see any substantial (if any) impact of the new tax. As far as I've heard it did reduce the foreign investment a bit but not as much as in the first month they introduced it. Time will tell, it for sure couldn't go much longer the way it did!

Yea, you're right, isn't crazy that about every 4th window is a vacant condo owned by some foreign dude?
The coolest thing about Vancouver is the about of super cars you'll see. I'm guessing you saw a ton on Millionaires Island?
Oh yes. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Austin Martin. BMW and Mercedes Benz are so common there, they are almost like the standard car.
I remember being so impressed with the cars.
Yea, around Georgia Street, there seems to be a lot of super cars there.
