Edit Of The Day: #2 'Green & Gloom'

Hey guys! After scrolling through instagram this morning I came across something very interesting. I saw two photos side by side -- they were the same, but not the same. I mean the original photo was exactly the same, but the interpretations taken by the respective editors was completely antagonistic.

It made me come to realise how the mood and feeling of an image can veer onto two very different paths. The same image, taken by the same person at the same time can be turned into two extremely unique images. Ladies and gentlemen, the power of editing.

So I took it to lightroom and decided to give it a try myself. For today's post I took a moodier and gloomier approach to the edit. Here is the original:

The original shot was already a masterpiece in itself, capturing one of the main points of the location, being where the sunrays penetrate the thick forest. The general 'mood' for this photo would be along the lines of; happy, nature, relax, vacation etc.

This is my 'moody' edit:

From the switch of a few sliders, the general vibes of the image have clearly changed. We now see a darker, gloomier version of the previous image. By balancing the yellows and greens, I was able to achieve a deeper and richer green colour, overall the blacks were increased and a lot of fading was introduced when using the tone curve. This creates an almost eerie mysterious vibe.

In today's edit, I just wanted to show how editing can flip the mood of an image 180 degrees! In my next post, I'm going to re-edit the same image and show you the opposite side of this.
